I do like Buck's suggestion for an Arduino or raspberry pi. That sounds like a fun project but a bit more work.

Your question made me laugh out loud.

Many moons ago, I was at a COMMON conference and a group of us were talking to one of the communications developers. That was in the S/38 days of BSC & SNA. We talked about communicating to other devices and he shook his head and said "Oh, you're the guys that try to hook up conveyor belts to my system!". I remember he also accidentally mentioned "XPF" instead of "CPF".

Subject: Has anyone interfaced an external system example, sounding a buzzer and turning on a light.

I have been asked if I could implement an option like this. We have a conveyor system that needs to monitor boxes going down the line. As an example, if the box is not received, the buzzer should buzz and the light flash.

Can you give examples if anyone has done this?
