I've used it in a few cases to zip up files.

We have it as part of our backup process that's outlined here:
http://www.fieldexit.com/forum/display?threadid=59

We also use it to zip up files for clients:

CHGVAR VAR(&ZIPCMD) VALUE('jar -cfM /tmp/' *TCAT +
&OUTFILE *TCAT '.zip -C /tmp' *BCAT +
&OUTFILE *TCAT '.json')
QSH CMD(&ZIPCMD)

I just found a nice article in the Midrange Archives about how to zip an
IFS file using the STRQSH command with JAR. I'm trying to find
documentation for the JAR function to better understand how this works
and
what IBM i OS features need to be installed in order to support it.

Does anyone have any documentation on how this works?

I'm not finding much at the IBM Knowledge Center.
