Rob,

1) What do you mean when you state " want a solution that uses the exact same disk between two different hardware boxes"?

2) Our downtime use would ditto yours, PTF's, OS upgrades, plus CEC cache battery (have one scheduled for Jan 2016) , system saves and migration to new hardware.

Paul

Understand what scenarios you are most likely to use your HA solution and make sure your solution fits.

For example, do you really want a solution that uses the exact same disk between two different hardware boxes? Exactly how often does one lose a backplane? Wouldn't there be things like different IP addresses between the facilities?

We've found that most of our downtimes involve PTF's, OS upgrades, etc.
Kind of hard to be using the same disk for that. We use Mimix. Works. We switch once a quarter with one planned for tomorrow night. To do an OS upgrade.

We will be replacing our existing P7 8205-E6C with a P8 8286-42A.
The old P7 8205-E6C is being considered as an HA/DR box.
I know it can be used, but is it cost effective?
I know very little about HA/DR, watched a few webcast demos years back.

1) I was told that a current box would not qualify for as a CBU box. if
this is true. then we would have to purchase new licenses, etc for the
HA/DR box. Possibly purchasing a new CUB box might be more cost effective.
2) Additional HA/DR software would need to be purchased, I'm looking for a
list of all the options. (Power HA, MIMIX, ITERA). I did find this link.

Any thoughts or experiences from the group?

Thank You
