Chuck, what are you using to read these threads? Most of Rob's posts
are actually among the longest for me because whenever he leaves the
quoted material intact, it shows up at the bottom and *is NOT
automatically hidden* the way most signatures and verbatim quotes are.

I'm using Gmail's Web interface, which usually provides a little
button whose label is '...'. Clicking on that button reveals or
re-hides auto-trimmed sigs and quotes. Rob's (and a few other users')
posts never, ever have that button. It is actually quite a chore to
scroll down a whole thread's worth of repeated verbiage to get to the
next post.

I'm not complaining. I like Gmail's interface well enough that I'm not
going to switch.
