The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

You must have missed when I quoted your error message from when you
tried it in STRQSH.
I also quoted this (I guess we have to play "did you *really* read my
message", so...)
I've tried vi on one or two occasions, which normally had me running for
the scotch. IDK the right parameters and try to forget it as soon as
possible.
I am asking, on THOSE OCCASIONS, the ones that "normally" (I don't
know how you can have "normal" for one or two occasions, but OK,
whatever) had you running for the scotch.
Just before you reached for the scotch, what were you trying vi on?
My point is that I don't know how vi can possibly work at all, in any
way, shape, or form, on the 5250. It's not a matter of parameters. I
was trying to probe to see if you maybe had tried it via some other
interface, like using PuTTY to connect directly to PASE or something.
Or perhaps you remember it from an actual Unix or Linux box, and not
an i at all.
If you have never used it other than through QSH or QP2TERM on a 5250
green screen, then I don't know how you could possibly have gotten any
further than you got just now.
