I wish right now they are all still using dumb terminals to connect so no way to use FTP, etc that would be too easy.

Thanks,

Tommy: I don't think there is any QIC technology that will help you on the newer boxes. You might be able to find a SAS attached QIC but color me really doubtful. Can the source machine connect to an IP network? If so I'd use FTP to push the objects across. (the SAS only on the new boxes is the real problem there)

Agile maintains sufficient equipment to help with the migration and I know Larry (iInTheCloud) does as well, I believe there are others. Call if you would like some help.

Yes currently it's running v3r6 but all of their applications are S/36.
The as/436 is a "hybrid" of sorts.

Tommy,

Have you laid hands on this machine? Wasn't there a model like that
which didn't run OS/400 but actually just ran S/36 SSP? And I'm not
talking about environment.

We were migrating from S/36's to AS/400's and in that process we had
one (semi autonomous) plant where the plant manager went to one of
these instead. He's now my boss. Great guy but I thought that move
was a bit odd.

A colleague of mine has a client with an old as/436 (yep that?s right
a
436!) and they are looking at getting a shiny new system. The problem
(well other than doing multiple upgrades in the process) is that the
only drive on the system is the trusty internal QIC tape drive. Since
I?m not really that much of a hardware guy I thought I?d see if anyone
knows if there are external QIC drives that will work with a new
system (most likely entry level and cheapest on the market) running on
v7.2. I suspect

they might be SOL on that front. According to the midrange.com wiki it
appears that the 436 can run v5r1 and if I?m reading that correctly
then we can handle most of the stuff up to that point then it?s
finding someone

that can restore to v5r4 & save at v5r4 and load that to the v7.2 box.
Maybe I?m underestimating but I love seeing any company stepping
forward instead of clinging to the past so any assistance would be
most appreciated!

Thanks,
Tommy Holden
