An update for whom may be interested.

The SQL server is a clustered server. The main server was failed over to the backup server in the cluster.

When the servers were failed over and later back to the primary data, the DRDA connection dropped and could not reconnect.

Found DRDA is linked to the DDM server on the IBMi. Shutdown the DDM server and restarted it and all worked again.

I cannot explain the shortened column names save to think it was cached. Eventually nothing worked forcing us to look at the IBMi where we found the issue tracing traffic on port 446 (DRDA).

Has anyone experienced the problem of column names being restricted to 40 characters when using linked servers ( ms SQL)?

It worked for months until today....

TIA
