I too have seen vendors waiting too long to support the current level of
IBM i. One, I have replaced vendors who have done this and won't hesitate
to do so in the future. Two, I tend to shy away from any vendor who brags
they still support numerous old versions of the OS. These people often
have old machines that cannot upgrade to the new levels of the OS.

Yeah desktop productivity suffers when they're constantly battling java,
flash and browser wars. Spent about an hour on a conference call with IBM
and a Power user today until they could get a browser that would work with
their setup and LotusLive so IBM could look at the original issue on their
PC. After IE failed, and Chrome failed, FF finally worked.

I agree that in a large corporate setup, or someone who makes their living
doing upgrades, does need a test lab to ensure they can do these upgrades.
