Sometime in the life of v5.4, IBM changed the CPYF command to use
SQL under the covers. It's very different from v5.3 and earlier. If
you use CPYF display the job and take option 11 to see the program
stack. You will see the calls to SQL objects.

A conspicuous misinterpretation of whatever was seen, or a misstatement; the Copy File (CPYF) utility is not implemented with the SQL, although accessing SQL files [e.g. an SQL VIEW] may require SQL programs to effect the native\non-SQL 'open' of the file, but the same 'open' by any HLL [e.g. RPG] program would see the same SQL programs active.
