Have them try the openquery technique. You may not think you have a
problem with speed, but afterwards you may be stunned. Let me rephrase it
like this,
let's say I run a batch job that finishes in 10 minutes. And I'm pretty
happy with that.

Now I upgrade my system from a B10 running 1.2(bit of an exaggeration) to
a Power 8 with 3 dozen SSD's and it completes subsecondly.
That would reevaluate my perception of speed.
Literally we've done a lot of upgrades where afterwards the users kept
resubmitting jobs because they couldn't find them in WRKACTJOB or on the
job queue. Then completed too darn fast to type in WRKACTJOB. We ended
up telling them to check the output queue.
