As i wrote on other places and other threads - it is nice to learn playing around with LPARing and administrative stuff. But what the IBM i community really needs is developers, developers, developers
(thanks, Steve B.)
Do not go into deep with the hardware, this is plain vanilla these days.

We need more people playing around with the dev tools and new features.
Talked to the Zend people - forget them, they're not very interested in the i platform. So we need to setup PHP manually, but will be done soon.
RoR, Node.JS etc - all will be available rather soon for providing a playground. But never forget, that enthusiasts like DrFranken or RZKH cannot do wonders without spending some bucks...

Going that way has allowed me to learn how to do full system saves,
restores, disk replacement procedures, playing in SST, installing linux
on LPAR, etc. For learning RPG properly, rzkh.de would be perfectly
fine. It was interesting to examine the boards, chips, ports, etc and
try to figure out how ibm assembled everything. Recovering the qsecofr
password and setting up the lan console was also fun.
