First of all we need something more descriptive than "AS400e" before we
can bless V5R3. Something that matches the chart shown on:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssm1platformibmi
9401-150 for example.
Often this is in small print on the front of the box by the serial number.

Not that it is legal, and I discourage this practice, but you could try
scratching your disks every 70 days and reinstalling. I thought at one
time IBM had a hook in there to catch people doing this but I've been told
I was misinformed.

Me, personally, I would find this frustrating at best!
First of all, I hate obsolete versions of the OS and I thrive on the
newest.
Second of all, that hardware is a dog and much of the stuff you would
learn "hardware wise" isn't really transferable. For example, hooking up
a token ring card, or a modem connection into IBM, or an IXS card are
skills that are minimal compared to something more useful, like flint
knapping.
Third, power consumption by older models would tax the wiring on my old
house. And my electric bill is already a kick in the knickers.
I really think one would be better off by using a timeshare service or
some such thing. Sort of like this:
