I agree that I prefer to remotely access the HMC with the web browser
support and only use the KVM when I need to, like some special restarts,
starting shared 5250 sessions and that genre.

I have also set up most of my LPARs with "allow console recovery" which
really helps with those times when you've lost your console session when
running a long running task.

And Paul, you may not "need" a KVM but if you can
reduce the cost of your HMC by not ordering it with it's own keyboard and
monitor,
reduce rack and power consumption by eliminating a dedicated device,
gain remote capability to your KVM,
why would you not want to? Especially if you already have a KVM
supporting a few blade centers and whatnot.
