I have been trying to get IBM i Client Access ODBC driver working on
Ubuntu 64-bit 14.04 and I cannot get it to work. This is the message
that has me stuck:

"Can't open lib '/opt/ibm/iaccess/lib64/libcwbodbc.so' : file not found"

I figured out my problem. I needed to use unixodbc 2.3.1 or higher and this is not the package Ubuntu uses by default. I figured it out thanks to an article on iprodeveloper.com. The article focused on Red Hat based distributions but had enough information that it clued me in on the program. That article is here:

http://www.iprodeveloper.com/database/db2-i-data-access-linux-style

Earlier today I had seen a document about installing unixodbc 2.3.2 and really didn't understand the significance until I saw the article on iprodeveloper.com. Things start to click.

Here the process I used to get unixodbc 2.3.1.

By the way, the iprodeveloper.com article shows how to force install using rpm. Using dpkg the command you need to run is

sudo dpkg -i --ignore-depends=libodbc1 ibm-iaccess.amd64.deb

(I renamed the package using WinSCP so it would be easier to type).
