John:

Try this in program "B" --

SNDPGMMSG MSGID(CPF9898) MSGF(QSYS/QCPFMSG) MSGDTA(&MSG) +
TOPGMQ(*EXT) MSGTYPE(*STATUS)

Sending a status message to the external message queue should display that message right away at the user's terminal (on the message line).

You might also want to follow the above command with:

SNDPGMMSG MSGID(CPF9898) MSGF(QSYS/QCPFMSG) MSGDTA(&MSG) +
TOPGMQ(*PRV *) MSGTYPE(*DIAG)

if you want the messages included in the program message queue, and ultimately, in the job log.

I have program A that repeatedly calls program B with different parameters

I tried having Program B do a SNDPGMMSG *PRV *COMP and if I call program B
from the command line, it works. However, when program B is called from
program A, the messages never show when program A is complete. Can anyone
tell me which command and parms need to be used to have program B send the
message all the way back?
