Hi Jim,

I don't have experience with any of the following listed below. I merely
have seen emails amongst our networking group discussing this very topic
recently. Comments (if any) are from other people.

- Zabbix - open Source tool with a large user base, it is a fantastic tool
and it's free. It has agents for many application and supports all these
platforms: AIX, Linux, Mac OS X, SCO Open Server, Solaris, Tru64/OSF,
Window(all flavours). The tool can give you one view into your environment
and has great reporting capabilities.

- SCOM & GXS Monitor

- Uptime Network Monitoring Software - can monitor all circuits including
tunnels.

Yours truly,

Looking for an external system monitor to verify all the services up:
telnet

It would need to be external so if IP is down, an alert can be generated.
Does the HMC have this capability? Needs to be able to send text alert or
email.

We have a 7 hour (midnight to 7am) incident where the ENDTCPSVR command was
stuck on a NFS issue, so part of system still up, but part was down.
