Open up a design change request to have IBM put that wording back in (or
was there some other acceptable method than analyzing the wording?).

Mention that because they are using open source based stuff they are free
to modify it at will.

Search for, and if not found, open up a new requirement at common.org to
have IBM put the wording back in.

Find the source and modify it at your will.

Roll your own using sockets and whatnot.
