About that 10%... there are those who have run into 'communication' fears
and the thought of asking the IT director to call their BP or what not
scares them. I think it's somewhat irrational but to them the fear is
real. Then again, I've done Toastmasters and whatnot so fear of speaking
is not my problem.
I have coworkers who are afraid to ask for expenditures in 'lean' years. I
argue that if a solution may save, or make additional, money then we have
a duty to ask for the expenditure for the solution. Granted, TPTB may
disagree with our analysis of the cost savings, or it may be that things
are so tight that we have to lose some money in the long run to save short
term money. But that's not our decision to make. We need to make the
proposal.
