It's ALLLLLL about the network. :-)

It always could be on another box but you need a way for each partition/server to get TO that box from a Service Tools interface.

At the moment our repository is on "Box A" while the majority of the partitions are on "Box i" (Although both are IBM i).

We also have images there that we can boot from to install new partitions. Another piece of magic that I so enjoy. :-)

I ftp to each system. Sure it takes more space but I have it to spare.
The copies run in the background so it's not like I'm sitting there
twiddling my thumbs. Also, if the IPL doesn't quite apply right and I
have to load/apply again they are on that system and I'm not stuck because
the 'serving' machine is now also down doing maintenance.
