We had a 100+ platter report archive in RVI to migrate to NFS mounted IFS directories. We had to utilize a utility from RVI to copy platters and update their database at the same time. We also utilized the IBM lab services offering that copied an optical platter to an image catalog, that sped up the RVI utility by an order of magnitude.

Larry,

Opentext did our migration for use with VIP DocManager

Search "Optical library data migration enhancements using image catalog"

There are several methods.

1.2 Data Migration Concepts
There are a number of data migration approaches tha t are used to move data from an optical library. Examples include:
*
Using utilities and procedures provided by the arch ive software application
*
Using application APIs to retrieve data from optica l library media and store it on a new destination
*
Using CPYOPT or CPY commands to move files and dire ctories from optical library media.

You're getting ahead of me. :-)

That was my next thought in a separate soon to be sent thread :-)

What's the steps, just put them in an image catalog with OPTVRT01???

Why not move all 3995 data to IFS, it would fit all on 1 disk.
That's we did when we migrated from P5 to P7, and 3995 would not attach, not to mention the high cost of maint.

SCSI attached optical Jukebox.

Unit is small enough it should fit nicely in a rack by laying it down.
Which is of course the rub! If it lays on it side will it work? If so is one side better than the other?
