I thought if IBM determines a PTF as defective, they remove the ability for it to be downloaded.
That did not occur in this case.
Why?

I agree with Rob. Rather than messing around with the old PTF, it's been superseded by a (presumably) corrective one, so apply them all. That's what IBM intended when the superseded PTF was released.

It is very likely that the offending PTF fixed more than one APAR, but only a small function was incorrect, so you'll need both of them anyway. The follow on PTF only fixes what it needs to, not the entire function of the prior one.

I have not looked but I'll bet an adult beverage that the old PTF is a pre-req to the new one.

<snip>
I stumbled upon the fact that it's back due to the fact there is a superseding PTF, 5770TC1-SI55030. Or do I just download the superseding PTF and set it to apply?

I would think that would be the proper course of action.

All,

I have a defective PTF (5770TC1-SI54738) set to apply at the next IPL. How do I stop it? I've tried both RMVPTF and DLTPTF. Both give me errors.

I was one of those involved in discovering it's defective, deleted it at that time, and now, somehow, it got downloaded again. Part of some group, maybe? Anyway, I stumbled upon the fact that it's back due to the fact there is a superseding PTF, 5770TC1-SI55030. Or do I just download the superseding PTF and set it to apply?

Thanks.
