Nor will the tape show write protect until the library mounts the tape and
checks the tape. A simple inventory won't do it.

You are also comparing apples with dirt (not even a fruit to vegetable it's
not that close). The web browser on the tape library has but one thing to
do, serve up that page with a very tiny read to the library database. Your
IBM i box, well yea it does a bit more.......

Now if you used the Navigator interface to look at the tapes inside BRMS
then I think you'll see a comparable time against 5250.

My God, 5250 is just so SLOW compared to the same function via a web
browser!

I tried the DSPTAPSTS command against our library. While waiting on that I
started up firefox, gave it the name of our tape library, drilled through
the options to show me all the data cartridges loaded in that library. It
returned the list before the 5250 screen was done.
The web interface also showed me all the tapes and not just the tapes for
one particular lpar (like the 5250 interface did).

Too bad neither one displayed write protect status.

The tape library doesn't now about the status of the write protect tab
(DSPTAPCTG) until the tape has been loaded into the tape drive.

Suggestions as to most efficient way to cause all tapes in a tape
library to get loaded so the write protect tab status is known?

Thanks,

Jerry
