Do a wrkactjob output *print

Copy the spool file to a disc file.

Create a CL to examine the disc file for any number and all kinds of conditions.

Send emails to notify of various conditions.

Been doing this for years and it works fine. Free, cheap, and easy.

Do not forget to check the QSYSMSG msgq, if you have it.

Subject: best method to monitor QSYSOPR queue

Have been tasked to implement a monitor over QSYSOPR message queue for messages with halts, plus hardware warnings, on V7R1 system. No $$, and little time. Needs to send email to multiple addresses (in a table). Lot's of network staff & programmers, but no one watches the i (till something goes missing..) In pre-navigator or Systems Director days it was not too hard to do. Sys Director not currently implemented, and appears to take some time to set up.
What are people doing these days (when no budget for software, and only a few hrs allocated as a side project)?
