*user doesn't buy you anything if you have no grasp on the concept of "use
adopted authority"

Ok, there are two items of concern on a program
User profile . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : *USER
Use adopted authority . . . . . . . . . . . . . : *YES

They are totally unrelated!
If I change user profile to *owner, and totally ignore "use adopted
authority" then the program runs under the authority of the owner of the
program.
If I leave user profile to *user on program C but have use adopted
authority set to *yes then it runs under the authority of the program that
called it. Let's say it was called by "B"
If I leave user profile to *user on program B but have use adopted
authority set to *yes then it runs under the authority of the program that
called it. Let's say it was called by "A"
Now let's say "A" was set to user profile *owner and left "use adopted
authority" to *no "A" will run under the authority of it's owner. Any
program that "A" calls, that has "use adopted authority" set to *yes will
also run under the authority of the owner of "A".

So, if my vendor ships my programs with use adopted authority set to *yes
and everyone of those programs has User profile set to *user but I call
them from a custom program called INLPGMMNU and I set up INLPGMMNU to be
owned by SSA and *owner then all those programs will run under SSA.
Let's say I create a new data set. and all that data is limited to access
by DIVISION2. So I create a copy of INLPGMMNU and have it owned by
DIVISION2. then the whole program stack under this copied program will
run under the authority of DIVISION2. Sure beats the snot out of copying
every program and changing the owner.
