It sounds like you are looking for a ftp client product. Not a ftp server product. Some of the suggestions given were strictly for a ftp server product.

We use GoAnywhere for our ftp server. We often use Arpeggio for sftp client and just regular IBM i for ftp client. The GoAnywhere ftp client included a bunch of other stuff that priced it out of reach, especially when compared with Arpeggio, which we already had installed. Therefore 'single sourcing' lost it's appeal.

I can see where products would have advantages over the ftp client built into the OS when it comes to retrying, etc. Some flexibility in retrying could be extensive. For example, when we are doing OS upgrades and whatnot our FTP site could be down for a day or so. Sure, we could probably find some way to cluster that but TPTB decided it's not necessary at this time.

My boss is searching for a commercial product we can use to manage our FTP
Primary requirements are:

* iSeries friendly
*supports detail FTP error detection: for example we want to know if the
connection
is successful and be able to re-try/re-schedule if not
*supports 'standard' FTP: the main site we send/receive with does not use
SFTP

We have Arpeggio on our list: but it seems exclusively for SFTP ?

We also have Linoma Software on our list: any comments ?
