This thread has been right on, but a couple things to check.

If you are using any virtual IPs you must change the MTU for those also after the *LIND is changed.

Verify that all standard IP interfaces are using *LIND for the MTU size or they won't change.

Verify that the switches are configured for Jumbo frames. This is very likely as you say your big iron is configured for Jumbos.

Realize that not all TCP/IP servers will see.a boost in performance. FTP will and certainly NFS will. It you must have sufficient Power to push it. e.g. A power5 520 with four drives and 1GB memory won't have enough to leverage Jumbo Frames.
