Brad alerted me to this thread last week.
While I'm not on the development team any more, I asked internally about
the use of SMTP.
Apparently Robot Alert has SSL/TLS capability. eSend does not currently.
If you let the support team at HelpSystems know and get this in as a
feature request it sounds like they can possibly re-purpose the SMTP logic
Hope this helps.

I should probably state that what I am ultimately trying to do is
emails from the IBM i out into the world WITHOUT needing a Windowsserver
on our office LAN to get it done.wrote:

Hmm.. maybe I should get in contact with the Esend folks. :)
thousands using MAILTOOL and loving it. :)
I don't know for sure but last I heard the IBM SMTP serer
or TLS and authentication is "iffy".
And the settings are server wide for authentication which
you want to use different "from" addresses. Most cloud
settingpasswordoverride the "from" address with the authentication user id
Or if you want to use multiple servers, a global server wide
work in that case.
MAILTOOL Plus is fully configurable at the command level for
settings, and uses configuration files that really helps as well.
I quit fighting with the IBM SMTP server things years ago, not
IBMunpredictablebecause of these lack of features, but because it was so
hard to debug.

The other issue is we use Esend from Help/Systems for
dozens and dozens and dozens of reports. Esend /requires/
server for sending the emails.
