BRMS can do migrations, but not supported by IBM, this is what I was told by IBM support.

BRMS can very certainly do a migration! I've done many of them. There are some steps to follow but it's very straight forward.

I'm not sure, but BRMS migrations may not be supported.
I attempted, but reverted to save 21, restore 21.
Everything was restored from tape via fiber, I don't think I needed DVD OS was already loaded to save time, waiting for the tape from save 21.
Some notes from migration issues.
1) When we migrated from POWER5 to POWER7, system service program QPMLPMGT authority was changed from *PUBLIC *USE on the POWER5 to *PUBLIC *EXCLUDE on POWER7. This created problems by which some users were not able to use SPY to view and/or print archived reports
2) After migrating from POWER5 to POWER7, the following outqs had their *PUBLIC authority changed from *CHANGE to *USE. This affected multiple users and their ability to work with spooled files within the affected outqs. The fix to the problem is changing the *PUBLIC authority of the outqs back to *CHANGE.

I'm doing it with BRMS. Following the BRMS recovery reports.
So far the only issue has been the attribute change of '/tmp'.
Mimix also has a section in their guide "Mimix_Operations-5250.pdf", "MIMIX-specific steps for a hardware upgrade with a disk image change".
Failure to follow that has earned me one trip to the woodshed. Especially when dealing with all the QAUDJRN receivers getting changed from QGPL to QSYS.

Keep in mind that I've done it this way for 10 other lpars. Just the last two to go.
Most of these with me physically being offsite. God I love HMC! And fiber connected tape libraries! And hosted disk!

These last two are our main production lpar (utilizing a Mimix switch), and our DMZ Domino/web/sftp/ftp server.

Did our development lpar (with it's own Mimix backup) midweek. Did find some stuff that we should probably Mimix.

Curious, how you doing your save/restore.
Save 21 / Restore 21.
Both my P5 to P7 migrations had issues back in 2012.
Most was IFS related, because some IFS items were marked not be saved, which in turn caused LPP to fail.
Make sure you have everything saved.
Good luck.
Your brave doing 2 in one night at the same time.
I wrote a little utility to pull any errors from the 10,000 to 20,000 migration joblog.
I can send you the code if interested.

Both guested. DVD to VIOS. Disk to IBM i.
One DVD.
Saves will start tonight.
I can boot one lpar to DVD just fine. Once you've booted into DST does it need to read the DVD again to take various DST menu options? Or is it done reading the DVD and loaded all of DST into memory? IOW, can I go ahead and boot the second lpar now, after reassigning the DVD to it? I'm thinking, no.
