RE: IBM Content Manager for iSeries problem

fixed

I absolutely despise that glib phrase. It never works out, because nobody has the same definition of "broke"... (More idiocy elided... Don't want to start nuthin...)

I do feel your pain when "stable" becomes "unstable" for no definable reason, but this is clearly "broke" now...

A quick look at documentation (not for your version) shows this product using port 1445 by default. Perhaps the new firewall is not being friendly to this traffic.

Thanks Mike. As the old saying goes, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. (version is 13 years old). We have not made any changes to the program for this process. I would think to that if this were a bug in our program, that when we re boot the PC's, I would think that they would still not work, yet they do for about 3-5 hours until the error box comes up again. Honestly, the only thing that has changed in our environment prior to seeing these errors, is that our firewall was changed out. Now, I have gone to our team that maintains the County firewall and, of course, they said nothing that they changed would have effected this. Yet, we had NO problems with Content Manager for over 13 years until the firewall changed.

EKDVIDSP.DLL is the dll provided by IBM that is having the issue. It is used to support host-initiated display requests from the iSeries QVISNDRCV API.

You may have a bug in one of your programs that is calling that API and attempting to initate a display request from a 5250 session for an invalid document id and IBM might not be handling it properly in content manager.

Good luck on this one, your version is 13 years old...

Subject: IBM Content Manager for iSeries problem

We are running IBM Content Manager for iSeries Client Application V5R1 with fix pack CMClient.510.19. We have been using this program to view documents that are scanned into our system via a product called Kolfax. We have been running his configuration for a long time. However, about a week ago, our end users are now receiving an error message when they try to view documents. The users will chose a document and then take the option to view it. This starts up Content Manager to view but they are now receiving an error: EKDVIDSP Invalid item. DB14211AA.AC5. When they receive this error, it completely locks up their pc's. They have to re-boot their pc's in order to view documents again using Content Manager. After they log back into their pc's, they can view documents, but again, later in the day, it will throw this same error again, we have to re boot again. There have been no changes on these pc's. There have been no changes within the client app nor on our iSeries server.
We ran some wireshark traces, but do not see anything out of the ordinary.

Has anyone seen this? Any ideas would be great.

Thank you,
