I use multiple devices for system saves.
BRMS will pick a new volume, seq 1 for SAVSYS, the rest of the system save will append.
STRBKUBRM CTLGRP(SAVSYS06) SBMJOB(*CTLSBS) APPEND(*YES) OMITS(*PROC...

add to the end of the destination tape. I have a number of archive
tapes I decided to consolidate and that will make my life easier.
