Well, 7.1 LIC didnt like the disks either, same "IO error" on all disks.
I'm burning the AIX diagnostics which is used to do the reverse (522 to
512) and i'll see if it has the 512 to 522 option. I'd really like to turn
all of those disks to IBM i since i have more of those machines...

Jim, I know that i can not install LIC into a DPH'ed drive and i must
Format & Initialize first, but on that screen (Format and Initialize) is
that i get the i/o error. As soon as i get a moment i'll re-hook it up to
the HMC and test with 7.1's LIC DVD just to be sure.

Best Regards,

You tried to install LIC before you initialized the drive. That drive is
read only (the H in the name gives that away)

Go into disk recovery and reformat the drives before you try and load LIC.

Jim, At least with the v5r4m5 I_BASE i just used the initialize option
ends up with I/O error and a surface scan ends with "not supported", The
disks appear as 6600 and DPHXX, maybe i have to use a 7.1 I_Base? i'm not
sure when that re-format procedure appeared...

Roberto:

If I read you correctly you want to take a disk formatted for AIX and
use it on IBM i.

Boot from DVD into DST if needed or STRSST

Work Disk Units
Work with Disk unit recovery
Disk unit problem recovery procedures
Initialize and format disk unit

By the time you're done you'll have model 50 drives of the appropriate
type.

I remember Dr Franken mentioning that with SAS disk there is a way to
format 300Gb disks into 281Gb and vice-versa, i just got a batch of
300Gb which of course appear as 6600 to my I_BASE_01, i was wonderin
how exactly that format can be applied, maybe i have to hook them up
to a VIOS partition?
(that would be time-consuming as my vios machines dont have 3.5"
bays) Or maybe it's related to the linux iprconfig tool i googled?
Well if anyone knows, i may put those disks to good use...
