We upgraded our 7043-CR4 to V7R780 with PTF MH01388 yesterday.

We burned .ISO DVDs from downloaded files.

The upgrade didn't work. IBM said we had a media issue. Maybe.

With help from IBM we we able to do an install of 7.7.80 from the same DVD. Go figure. It was like a scratch/reload of the HMC. There was some reconfiguring to do but it discovered the FSB of the two managed systems with no problem.

One big issue is that we learned that if you are on V7.7.80 you CANNOT have any other HMCs at a lower level due to an increase in the FSB on the IBMi.

Rob,

I agree, and that's why I did not blindly suggest the upgrade to 7.7.8.

7.7.7 is the newest release that is currently on the web site compatibility
lists. You need a CR3 or C05 or later to get to 7.7.7.

Jack,

Maybe this doesn't apply to you but others should keep in mind that some of
the older HMC's won't run the latest and greatest HMC code. Like ours.
(upgrade planned).
Also, you should ensure that your level of firmware is compatible with your
HMC code.

Jack,

As Jerry points out 7.7.8 is out, but to answer your question; yes just
put
on the SP3. I don't remember if the eFix is part of that or not. You
can
always try to load it. If it's there it will tell you.

I have 7.7.4 and need to get current on Service Packs. I notice there
is a current SP3 and an EFIX, do I need to do all the SP's or can I
just get the current SP3, then put on the EFIX.
