We migrated from LTO3 to LTO4. We DUPed a LOT of tapes. Kept our
operator quite busy.

Once again, newer tape drives are pretty kicking fast. You'd be hard
pressed to find a processor that really drives them at rated speed. So
when I see someone with a 20 year old technology tape drive trying to see
if saving to save files is faster I cringe. Not that you're doing so...

IDK if there's a utility out there that dupes a tape without using the
host processor at all. You know, like initiate the dupe solely by front
panel buttons (or web interface) on the tape library itself. If so, IDK
how that would update the BRMS inventory.
