2GB Ram on a p5 machine makes for an awfull slow system overall.
I have a client where the IBM rep had somehow configured the old-style LPAR
options and neutered the machine from 4Gb to 1Gb. They bought a memory
upgrade to 8Gb from us. When attempting to rebalance the memory pools i
noticed that the sum of all pulls was only 1Gb, but the hardware was
correctly recognized...
Took me almost 2 hours to figure that one out. But after that the system
went from shutting down abnormally on every restart (due to having so much
temporal storage used that the puny 5703 CTL couldnt write out all pages on
the 3600 timeout) to shutting down in less than 3 minutes. And that was a
600cpw machine with v5r3...

We have a System i 520 with 2gb memory. I would use the web navigator more
often, but it is horrifically slow. When I click "Log in" it is literally
45-60 seconds until it comes up. Is that because we only have 2gb memory?

The web interface is a great improvement. I think IBM should put all the
team to improve it, leaving the old navegator alone. I'm sure userd
will go to the web without need to be forced, like happened between the
green screen and the graphical but prone to problems and hard to support
navegator.

Rob,

Most definitely.

Just as when Navigator for i "replaced" the green screen, IBM has
announced that the functionality of Navigator for i is now frozen.
There
are already things popping up in the web console that are not supported
in
any other way. A customer of mine recently pointed out a new option in
the
Advanced Job Scheduler that only exists in the web console version.

I also prefer the ability to access the system using a browser from
anywhere. Although it has not happened yet, I fantasize about fixing a
system problem from an Internet cafe in Paris. To save further posts
from
those who know me well, I'll admit that the fantasy here is me fixing a
system problem, not visiting Paris.

Cheers,
