Hi Paul,

Small thing: I love that your signature says "IBM i Systems Administrator". I wish your message also said "IBM i" instead of i5/OS.

Recommendations on i5OS socket program.

Thank You

As for recommendations... what are you looking for...?

I'll explain... the socket API is how people write network applications. A "socket" is the tool used to write data to a network, much like a "file" is the tool used to write data to a hard drive (or DASD.)

So asking for a recommendation on a "program that uses sockets" is like asking for recommendations on a "program that uses files." It leaves things wide open. In the file analogy, you might be looking for a payroll package, but recommenders might refer you to an inventory management package, because both use files, and that's all you asked for.

Likewise, if you ask for a program that uses sockets, someone may refer you to the telnet server, http server, ftp server... these are all programs that use sockets, and that's only the tip of the iceberg, there are millions out there.

Make sense?

To help you, we need to understand what the software should do. Once that is known, we may be able to make recommendations.
