Thanks guys (Richard, Vern, Buck)
We already have a process in place that converts the report (spool file)
to a PDF doc (With template and all) and displays it to the user.
but now users wants to edit some of the "constant" data that are taken
from the template and this call for Word instead of PDF.

I guess the easiest way is to replace the PDF converter with a Word
converter.

Gad

Maybe a .pdf would work - I think as of V6 that
is supported on iSeries

Subject: Spool file to Word doc

Hello guys

Need a way to interactively create a short report ,convert it to Word
(docx) document and display it on screen (using STRPCCMD) for the user to
confirm
and e-mail it. (I can deal with creating the report issue (-: )

The report's data is to be "Massaged" - moved around, embedded in variable
boxes, background image etc. (preferably by using a Word doc as a template)

Are you familiar with a *Native* tool up to the job?

Thanks
Gad

If you're open to commercial alternatives.

We offer several mail merge components and a Native Spool to RTF converter.

Why not create a CSV file and mail merge it instead ? Our Office
Integrator components can help with the mail merge as well as fully replace
the STRPCCMD for you.

There are a couple vendor offerings - RJS Software has their RJSOFFICE
app that would work with templates and all - it doesn't even need
STRPCCMD - has its own server on the PCs.

And SEQUEL has an option to create an RTF from spooled files.

I no longer work at RJS, and we just bought SEQUEL, so I'm learning what
is possible there.

I started a similar project using iText (http://itextpdf.com/) but
management changed direction and never got very far. Although iText
says it's a PDF generator, it will also do RTF files. If you're partial
to .NET, look at Aspose.Words
(http://www.aspose.com/.net/word-component.aspx)

I have no association with either of these.
