I am trying to create a file with really long column headings but
when I create it, it puts a space in between the two lines. Any ideas?

The maximum length of any line in COLHDG is 20. You can have up to 3 lines.

transactionEffecti veDate

BNEFDT 10 COLHDG('transactionEffectiv' -
'eDate')

Given your DDS, I am surprised to see the break between the 'i' and
the 'v'. What are you using to actually *see* this column heading?
(For example, DSPFFD? RUNQRY?)
