Paul: Do you have an idea of the transfer rate for SAVRSTLIB? My concern is FTP takes too long.

Rob: I had thought about running multiple FTP's at the same time. Is there any limitations to this? I can run this during off hours (from 2:00 am to 6:00 am) when system activity is very low.

Are you trying to transfer multiple save files simultaneously? I never see a single FTP session so much as tickle the performance capability of a LAN card. So, if your disk arms are up to the task, and the rest of your system isn't constrained, perhaps running multiple transfers at a time would be the option.

Can you filter data? For example select your 10 largest trading partners,
plus a select group of exception-type clients?

Bring along only the products they touched in the past few months, along
with only the past few months of transactions, etc.

Data sets are becoming so large that it may not be possible to quickly dup
everything.

In addition, SOX and HIPPA rules may restrict developer visibility to
production data. It seems a "gray area" to allow developers to view
yesterday's protected "production data" even though it is in a test
environment.

Subject: Data Transfer

Hi All: I'm having a problem transferring current data from a production
box to our development box. I've tried using FTP but I'm having issues
with this. First I did a SAVF on the library but it seems there is a limit
on the amount of data that can be transferred at a time. I believe I can
change the limit but that's not my main concern. I split the save into
multiple save files and only saved PFs and LFs but I still end up with
approx. 100 GB of data to transfer. My problem is that in using FTP it is
taking about 3 hrs. to FTP 16 GB of data. This would result in a time of
almost 20 hrs. to transfer the 100 GB. Is there a faster way to do this or
is using a tape backup and physically delivering it to the other machine
the fastest way? I only have a window of approx. 4-5 hrs. Any and all
suggestions are appreciated.

TIA
