I've been programming AFP and AFPDS off and on for years and I still get confused by which is a CHRSET and which is a CDEPGE and what does CCSID have to do with it. Multiply that by multiple glyphs (the actual raster image) for each font size in each face (bold, italic, italic bold, underlined and all) and it comes up to gobs and gobs and gobs of AFP resource objects.

Pick out the metrics that are important to you in your DDS keyword values and let the machine do the work to pick out the right set of objects that best fit your metrics. Usually point size and face is sufficient, though you might also specify font name (Times New Roman, eg). Often that resolution to actual font objects is done by the printer. The font objects are on the IBMi really only for HPT (host print transform). An IPDS printer can ask IBMi to download a font object when it needs one.

just my attempt at a joke. If anyone does any AFPDS printer programming I
could use the help.

Is a font resource code page the same as a character set code page? When
you
WRKFNTRSC FNTRSC(QFNTCPL/*ALL) OBJATR(CDEPAG)
there are a lot of code pages listed.

T1SKB001 QFNTCPL CDEPAG KEYBOARD 1 - U.S. STANDARD
T1SKB002 QFNTCPL CDEPAG KEYBOARD 2 - U.S. STANDARD
T1SKB003 QFNTCPL CDEPAG KEYBOARD 3 - U.S. STANDARD
T1SKB004 QFNTCPL CDEPAG KEYBOARD 4 - U.S. STANDARD

I know there are many code pages for different character sets. But why so
many for US character sets? And why on the FNTCHRSET keyword are
there resources and code pages? ( which probably does not matter to me
now
since I am using FONT number, but still curious to know why there is a
FNTCHRSET in addition to a FONT keyword. )

Hey, my reply was intended as an appropriate reply for such a broad
question. Let me be the first to suggest we drop this thread.

If you want to go on and on about "no one programs for the AS400
anymore"
(because they program for IBM i on Power) that would be ok. (or
excruciating for some)

With world-wide sales of over 6 billion copies (easily making it the top
seller), it would seem odd for it not to be read by anyone (anymore).

Rob, you do realize that no one reads the bible anymore. Kind of like
no
one appears to be programing the as400.

Pat helped with the Font number. 2304 and 2305 seem to work ok. 2305
being the bold version of 2304.
