Yes, I thought of mentioning that either file system naming convention was applicable but thought the discussion was going elsewhere as frequently occurs.

The QSHELL cmp utility will not care if the /flat file/ is an actual stream file, a PF-SRC [source physical file; per CRTSRCPF], or even a /program described/ PF-DTA [per CRTPF RCDLEN(specified)]. Each of those types of database files is treated effectively as if each were a STMF; located by its root naming:
/QSYS.LIB/LibName.LIB/FileName.FILE/MbrName.MBR

Thus in your first response to the message [improperly threaded per the OP made as a reply within an existing thread, thus sub-]thread, substitute the actual STMF references with the physical file member names for the &FILE1 and &FILE2:
