I'm with Vern on this.

The OA based technologies - Profound UI, Asna Wings, look's openLook, etc. etc. all offer a far better bang for the buck.

The biggest problem with tools like HATS is that for any new requirements you end up having to write old-style 5250 apps so that you can reface them. using the OA technologies you can write new stuff that is not completely welded to the 5250 model.

A serious question - have you looked at ProfoundUI? I think it might be able to handle some of this. I don't know about DSM, have never talked to them about it, and their solution is an Open Access solution, using existing RPG IO, so calls to DSM would not be in that mix, probably.

One of our clients is going to move "legacy" application to the web interface, with minimal changes in existing RPG applications, so it will be WebFacing and HATS used. Our application is quite big, it has several thousand DDS, and some modules use DSM. We can convert DDS to the web project using WebFacing, and setup HATS transformations, but there are two problems.

1. "Legacy" application continues to evolve, so we often make changes to it. Changes are supplied as patches that include only modified programs and DSPFs. Patches can be installed in environments with different levels of the other software, that is, with different versions of PGMs and DSPFs. So when we are supplying patch, we don't know where it will be installed

Question 1 - Is it possible to create similar "patches" to WebFacing/HATS ear? We'd like to supply some kind of patch that will modify ear, instead of supplying whole ear.

2. Application contains some programs that use DSM. Now we are looking for a most efficient way how to adopt these modules to web interface.

Question 2 - is anyone familiar with the 5250w protocol? How it differs from the standard 5250? I suppose it has some web-facing related features, and I'd like to know is it possible to use them somehow.
