Permanently applying PTF's can be a big help sometimes. When you
permanently apply them all of these backup files go away. Because you'll
no longer be able to use RMVPTF once it's permanently applied.

Just to follow a couple of recent threads...
QNOTES, while it's only a user profile, is huge, well, because it owns a
lot of objects on this system. A lot!
