If I were writing brand new, I would make the database multi-tenant by using a tenant or company ID.

In today's world we use a mix of VMs with some of our older apps and multi-tenancy for new apps.

Define "app architecture" ?

We build apps for i and Windows :-)

It's not really that hard. Why you complicate grasshopper ? :-)

It's all there in ASP.Net SQL Server as well as i.
It comes down to you the right app architecture.

You appear to be characteristically over simplifying, Richard. If you wanted to offer a broadly scoped application suite over the Internet, what "app architecture" would you choose. Your use of the term "app architecture" sounds like you'd design multi-tenancy into the application. Or, would you just opt for virtual machine images?
