Rob,

Exactly, i'm very used to having backup systems. In fact, when a non-local
client has a hardware failure i usually load up a compatible system and
parts and drive over. If it cant be solved in a short time i'll just
transfer them to the backup machine.
In this case i would make sure to get the same exact processor type, for
example 8325. That means that in case of a hardware failure you just move
the VPD card over to the other machine and it just works (you might have to
reassign comm lines or tapes, but nothing major).

I second the "do-not-use" a compressor motion. You have to be carefull
about static, oil and water. Also, beware of certain vacuums cleaners that
build up static. The brush and vacuum is a good idea since you usually
vacuum far from the components.

Best Regards,

What machine was it? it feels like a 520...

Yes, exactly!

You can buy a coupe of machines for the quoted price off ebay...

It must have been Global Services quoting the price. Incredible labor
costs. They can probably get away with it because when a server goes down,
a business can go down with it.

If you buy off eBay, can you keep up on S/W maintenance? Our 520 is on
7.1, and we plan on keeping it current.
