Are you upgrading the old machine to 7.1 first?
Full system save 520.
Upgrade to 7.1.
Cumes, etc.
Full system save of 520.
Restore to 720.
Change configurations, etc to align with new hardware resource names.
Minor testing.
Full system save.

I really would have done the upgrade from V5R4 to 7.1 on a previous weekend. There's only so much abuse a human body can take doing this all in one weekend. And if you run into any issues doing it in one weekend, ANY issues, then your window of recovery is so much less. Calling a CE back in because, on your 3 rack system, he accidentally looped the third rack back to itself can be rough. Hey, he was running on about 24 hours straight. I knew better to give him any grief because I could tell he was that close to quitting.
