You know what I'm talking about. You just stated it yourself (you can't update the OS without IPL'ing). Ha!

Besides this comment says it all:

Uptime is irrelevant for an individual server, anyway. If there's fail over (and there should be if uptime is important), take it down and update the kernel for security reasons, who cares?

But an AS400 might have that uptime and it would have been patched (at least up to EOL, since you cant update the OS without IPL'ing)...
I know 365, 700 days of uptime are nothing to an AS400m in fact some people in the list have 2 ipl per year if i'm not mistaken...
