Here's something to mull over.

What happens if you have over 255 disk drives and you have SSD's?
Again, unit(255) won't care that you really have a 255th drive. It's only
used by SSD operations.
My system is only a few TB. However, before we migrated to higher
capacity disk drives we had well over 100 disk drives. Therefore I have
to believe there are several systems which exceed 255.
