We always boot every HMC before we upgrade it. I have heard a similar statement from IBM. I know this was an error, but I haven't seen this happening in 7.7.6.

Subject: Hardware Management Console - Too many open files in process SRC-E212E161

One of our HMCs called home to IBM this morning with the message
SRC-E212E161 Too many open files in process

IBM tech recommended powering down and rebooting the HMC.

He said IBM recommends rebooting every month.

Do you reboot your HMCs regularly?
