Clay,

Pictures are worth a thousand words! Looking at those I can see there are Eight disk units in there. This means that the system has a RAID card. There is no way to configure that machine with more than 4 drives without adding a RAID card. It's VERY likely that the battery on that RAID card is failed. If you take the card out and bring the battery to Batteries Plus (or whatever is in your neighborhood) you can usually get a replacement for under $20. I would certainly do that before I began a recovery. The RAID card will be on the side with the control panel and the 4 drive cage. The slot it is in is mandatory so put it back where you find it. :-)

So that you know the Load Source disk unit is the disk immediately below the CD Drive on that side. Placement of the rest of the disk units does not matter they will be found at IPL and recognized by their serial numbers.

I want to thank everyone again for their assistance. I'm working on the
system now when time allows; and just in case, I found a 10 foot twinax
cable on ebay today & ordered it to eliminate the possibility of the
baluns being bad.

Another question; during an IPL D-M, will the system attempt to read the
optical drive more than once? I see codes changing on the panel, and
they cycle back to the same one they started with after a while, but
only see the optical drive flicker a couple of times after it powers up.

I did get my webserver back up and running, for anyone who is curious I
have photos here:

Thanks again,

I wouldn't doubt IBM has someplace for that. I am thinking things like
system password and whatnot... Chips are cheap. But I see where you're
going at. And if it's per lpar, couldn't that be 254 * a maximum of 1,000
lpars?
