Thanks for the reply. The issue was twofold....

I first attempted a binary transfer of virtual media that we created from an IBM i, which didn't work because it was not .iso format.

Realizing that fault, I downloaded a fresh .iso copy from ESS and must have forgotten to transfer it via binary mode. I did another transfer this morning (which was definitely binary). The transfer finished shortly after I sent out the midrange post. I can now boot from the VIOS VMLibrary.

Silly question but have you by any chance accidentally moved this disk
at any time without BIN mode? I had this exact problem and that was
the cause.

It sounds like you have everything correct so I would initially focus on assuring that the media is good.

All,

I cannot seem to get my IBM i client partitions to recognize virtual media hosted from VIOS. I will briefly describe my configuration, please tell me if there is an obvious miss on my part. In addition, perhaps there are IBM i "gotchas" that I am unaware of?

Virtual Media Library created in VIOS server (can see from HMC gui and
CLI) Fresh I_BASE spin J downloaded and imported into the VMLibrary
directory, named it V6LICj.iso (query from HMC GUI shows this
V6LICj.iso file) Virtual adapter #46 shared to all client partitions,
client adapter #46 connecting to VIOS #46 (alternate restart device on this client partition) Virtual file backed optical device created in VIOS that resolves to server adapter #46 (vDEV name is v_OPTVRT01) Mounted the virtual volume V6LICj.iso to server adapter slot #46 (v_OPTVRT01).
VIOS CLI command "lsmap -all" clearly shows the file mounted to vhost2
(adapter #46) and the backing device is /var/vio/VMLibrary/V6LICj.iso

All that said, whenever I attempt a D-mode IPL it immediately bombs
because the load source is not found. Ideas anyone? Thanks
